"Where Time Has Vanished," the condensation of the four years Japanese master photographer Ikko Narahara spent in the United States, is finally being reissued in a new edition.

In April 1970, Ikko Narahara, one of Japan's most important postwar photographers, moved to the United States, where he remained until 1974. The photo book "Where Time Has Vanished" (originally published by Asahi Shimbun in 1975) is the culmination of these four years. In stark contrast to his series on Europe, which embraced the weight of the continent's dense and layered history, Narahara's large-scale photographs of America capture its vast, untouched horizons with a dry, detached sensibility.
This new edition reorganizes the series into a new, definitive version that conveys the full range of artistry in Narahara's surreal, almost otherworldly images. "Where Time Has Vanished” is one of Narahara's definitive masterpieces and an invaluable companion to his acclaimed classic, “Europe: Where Time Has Stopped.”
This edition includes additional commentary by Noriko Tsutatani, chief curator of the Shimane Art Museum and a longtime scholar of Narahara's work.
