Fyodor Telkov's 36 Views revisits Katsushika Hokusai's celebrated series of prints, Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji. Telkov draws a visual comparison between that sacred mountain and the two waste heaps at opposite ends of Degtyarsk, a small mining town in the Sverdlovsk region. These mountains of waste rock are visible from everywhere: an environmental disaster that forms the residents' everyday horizon. The town grew around copper mining, which shaped its landscape and its consequences.
The project won the first Fotocanal Photobook Competition in 2016, organised by the Community of Madrid and Ediciones Anómalas.
