“It is a cyclical journey. I speak about my family, and about those who are not biologically related to me but whom I consider family. I explore the roles we play in our emotional relationships and the shelter and support we find in them.
I reflect on memory, similarities in our patterns of behaviour and what we mirror in one another. Also on the passage of time, the dreams and experiences that shape our identity.
B to B began with a portrait of my grandfather that my grandmother kept in her wallet. Its dedication reads: ‘When you are sad, look at it and think that I am with you.’
In this sense, an image's power to evoke memories allows me to explore my own identity.
In this exploration, the horse, which I consider a member of my family, forms a bridge between the project's different characters, symbolising the vital force between the unconscious desires we tame and our own human nature.”
