The AFAL photographic group was a collective of Spanish photographers who began a process of photographic renewal in the mid-twentieth century. Their main means of communication was AFAL magazine, published by the Agrupación Fotográfica Almeriense from 1956.
Its distinguished members included Joan Colom, Gabriel Cualladó, Paco Gómez, Ramón Masats, Carlos Pérez Siquier, Alberto Schommer, Oriol Maspons, Ricard Terré, Julio Ubiña, Francesc Català-Roca, Gerardo Vielba, Xavier Miserachs, Leopoldo Pomés, Ramón Bargués and Francisco Ontañón, among others. The magazine had a major impact on Spanish photography, until then dominated by pictorialism, and introduced readers to photographers from abroad such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, William Klein and Robert Frank.
