Dick Lau's Home comprises three series that re-examine the concepts of home and family through portrait photography.
 
For Diminish, Lau photographed families in locations of their choosing. Alongside "properly" focused images, he made photographs with parts blurred or out of focus, conveying an experience common to every family: differing lifespans and circumstances make the family a transient unit subject to constant change.
 
For Return, Lau worked in care homes. He asked elderly residents, unable to leave because of declining health, to choose their favourite places. He then visited and photographed those locations, printed the images as large backdrops and portrayed the residents and their families in front of these photographic replicas.
 
Origin focuses more on places than people, presenting playgrounds in different Hong Kong districts. "Playgrounds are where life begins: not only the starting point of a child's education, but also their first step into society," Lau writes in his afterword.
 
Each of Home's three series occupies a separate volume, accompanied by a text booklet featuring the artist's writing, essays by Lau Ching-Ping and a short story by Gabriel Wu.
