La Isla Otra / The Island Another showcases a 45-day journey from Havana to eastern Cuba, in search of the authentic Cuba, far removed from the media spotlight and tourism. Leah Fresneda and Pablo Varela narrate their personal experience through images. The island as a boundary, a geographical prison, a separation; but also as a place of resilience, where the color and light that pervade the landscape help one face daily life. This exhibition is a space for contemplation and reflection, symbolic, poetic, and open. Pablo Varela Barca (1992, Galicia) holds a degree in Optics and Optometry from the University of Valladolid and studied photography at Grisart International School of Photography, focusing on the narrative and expressive capacity of the image. Leah Fresneda Valls (1998, Barcelona) also studied at Grisart International School of Photography, where she began her first personal projects, focusing on the poetic values of the image. Later, she studied Drawing and Sculpture at the BAA, exploring other means of artistic expression.
