Irene Zottola is a Spanish photographer and artist who explores the limits of analogue photography to create a poetic, dreamlike world, often accompanying her images with text. Self-taught, she has worked in Madrid at the Slow Photo collective's darkroom since 2016. She was a finalist for the Rfotofolio Grant in 2017.
Her work has been exhibited in Spain, Italy and Morocco, and published by La Bella Varsovia and Lumen in Spain, as well as magazines including She Shoots Film in Australia, Fisheye in France and Vost in Korea.
In 2021, she received a VEGAP creation grant to begin a project in Paris and participated in BBK's ART(e)gileak residency with a participatory photography project. She is one of the thirty-three contributors to the Community of Madrid's Región mission project and part of the platform for Spain's National Centre for the Image. Winner of the fifth Fotocanal competition in 2020, she published her first photobook, Ícaro, with Ediciones Anómalas. It was a finalist at PhotoEspaña and the 2022 Les Rencontres d'Arles photobook awards.
