The Strawhat Cat is a photobook by leading Japanese photographer Masahisa Fukase. Alongside Family, Yoko and Ravens, his cat photographs form an important part of his work. This is the third book in the Cat series, following Viva! Sasuke and Sasuke! Itoshiki Nekoyo. Here, Sasuke, the second cat of that name, is joined by Momoe.

Fukase's accompanying text reveals his love of cats and his approach to photography. He describes spending a year photographing from a cat's eye level, as though becoming a cat himself, freely playing with his favourite subjects amid nature's changing seasons. Sasuke and Momoe are not idealised, toy-like creatures but ordinary mixed-breed cats of the sort found in any city backstreet. His aim was not simply to make cute pictures: by seeing himself reflected in their eyes, he photographed his affection for them. The book can thus be understood as a self-portrait made through Sasuke and Momoe.
