Platform's inaugural title, Nosey Parker by Hannah Platt, will launch at BOP Bristol. Book-signing details will be announced shortly.
In Nosey Parker, Hannah Platt revisits Peter Mitchell's Leeds and its surrounding towns five decades after he first picked up a camera. Where Mitchell is contemplative, Platt works with speed and wry humour, drawn to bright colours, graphic lines and typographic treasures.
The series celebrates the everyday. Fleeting beauty, bold lettering, golden sunrises and distinctive shopfronts acknowledge the charm and wit of a very British landscape. In every nook and cranny, Platt captures the mundanity of our lives with an appreciation for the people and places, in Leeds and beyond, whose unguarded humour is perfect for a nosey parker.
This playful approach also informs Platt's design. A strong colour palette, laser-cut details and a hidden final image draw the viewer in, encouraging engagement with the book as an object as well as with its photographic narrative.
The book includes a foreword by Martin Parr, whose work on Peter Mitchell's Strangely Familiar brought the world's attention to Leeds, inspiring the tradition Platt seeks to continue.
A special edition of fifty copies, including a signed, limited-edition 10 × 8-inch print, is produced in collaboration with Photographique, Bristol.
Hannah Platt is a Leeds-based documentary photographer. Her self-published works have attracted a dedicated following, with her 2020 title Out of Order selling through two editions.
