We ran a healing centre, a garden where people could come and rest from their struggles. When it finally dissolved, I was wounded. Having once been the healer, I was too afraid to ask for help. Where we lived in the mountains, people often exclaimed how lucky I was to live in such a paradise, one that, for me, carried the ghost of a broken ideal. It became a cave of guilt and shame. Natsuko and the animals, the small ray of light shining through the cracks in my depression, embodied the freedom I longed for. Through them, I could dig my way out and reconnect with the beauty of what we truly are in this world. I could find my role again.
