Published as the official catalogue of the exhibition at Setagaya Art Museum, The Promised Journey to Spain brings together photographs Narahara made during his European stay from 1962 to 1965.
 
 
 
Narahara, who rose to prominence in the late 1950s, visited Spain several times during his travels through Europe. The resulting series, España Gran Tarde, demonstrates his brilliant sense of composition, drama and photographic storytelling. This catalogue presents 135 images from that series and fifteen additional photographs from Where Time Has Stopped. Related materials, documents and numerous essays in Japanese and English explain the series' creation, the photographs' background, Narahara's approach and the historical context. The catalogue also focuses on his collaboration with graphic designer Mitsuo Katsui.
