Born in Gentilly, Paris, in 1912, Robert Doisneau is one of France's most distinguished photographers. Throughout his long career, his poetic approach to street photography recorded everyday French life in images that were often playful and surreal. Always delighted by his subjects, he enjoyed discovering amusing juxtapositions and quirks of human nature. He photographed a broad range of people and events, often juxtaposing conformist and nonconformist elements in images marked by an exquisite sense of humour, anti-establishment values and, above all, his profound humanism. – ICP
Produced to accompany the Robert Doisneau exhibition at the Bunkamura Museum, Tokyo, in 2021, this special portfolio presents six works in collotype. From accordionists to lovers and artists, Doisneau's photographs imbue images of everyday life with poetic nuances. Carefully hand-printed in black and white by the artisans of Benrido Atelier, the portfolio expresses Doisneau's distinctive, anecdotal account of Paris through collotype.
