Snow in Tokyo is a collection by Japanese photographer Satomi Obara. Born in Tokyo in 1975, she studied under Daido Moriyama while attending Tokyo Visual Arts and has continued developing her personal photographic practice through snapshots. She has presented solo exhibitions since the 2000s and received numerous awards. Following Ahe'hee (2010), with Native American subjects, and SWEDEN (2013), set in Sweden, this is her third book. It combines winter views of Tokyo photographed over many years since the late 1990s with newly made images. Falling snow alone changes the city's sound, atmosphere and scenery; the camera captures the pleasure of familiar places becoming unfamiliar. Limited to 100 numbered copies.
