The essence of Joshua Amirthasingh’s work lies in the stories it unfolds. Fueled by a deep sense of nostalgia for the vibrant energy of his childhood in India and his love of cinematic storytelling, Amirthasingh has created a dreamlike document of his adopted city of San Francisco.

Within the everyday bustle of San Francisco, Amirthasingh seeks out quiet moments, using the city's unique interplay of golden hour light—casting a warm, nostalgic glow—and ethereal fog, which creates a dreamy, evocative atmosphere. This interplay becomes a character in itself, adding another layer to the stories he weaves with his camera. Tales from the City offers a conversation between the familiar and the unexpected, inviting viewers to engage with the stories embedded within and to embark on their own journeys through their pasts.

Beautifully printed in four colors on natural matte art paper, and bound in linen over boards, this first printing of Tales from the City is limited to 1,000 copies and is published to coincide with the 2025 San Francisco Art Book Fair.
