The Pigs takes a tragicomic look at the stereotypes, deserved or otherwise, that southern European countries must live with. Its vision lies halfway between caricature and harsh reality.
The financial media coined the derogatory term PIGS to describe the eurozone's weakest countries: Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain. It comes from the Anglo-Saxon corner of the ring.
What became of Spain, the empire on which the sun never set? What happened to Italy, home to so much of humanity's artistic heritage? What happened to Greece, the cradle of Western civilisation? How did Portugal lose sight of its future after centuries of dominating the seas?
The Pigs revisits the stereotypes surrounding southern Europe through a tragicomic vision between caricature and hard reality. Through the eyes of a ruthless economist, it shows the remains of the slow shipwreck of Europe's cradle.
