The photographs in TX | CA 17 by Jason Lee were made during the summer of 2017 on a road trip from Texas, then his adopted home state, to Los Angeles, where he had previously lived and where he first set out to photograph from the road in 2006.
TX | CA 17 marks the first time Lee has published photographs from a single journey. The images are presented in approximate geographical and chronological order: North Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, the California desert, and finally Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA), where we see the gentleman waiting for his bus. The photographs were made primarily along and around Highways 287, 40/66, 62, and 10.
"I know many of these places quite well, and I have documented some of them frequently both before and after this trip. It is always a pleasure to revisit the familiar, those comforting landmarks, those reminders, and just as exciting to discover new places, make new photographs, and collect new memories.
