Photojournalism, documentary, advertising and other commercial photography and film making are all professional photographic pursuits that Elliott Erwitt accomplishes with stunning success, since becoming a member of Magnum Photos in 1953.
But it is Erwitt's other world of photography-the personal view-one of wit and humanity. serving up incongruous, small slices of life that are not only humourous, but serious as well. His "snaps" of dogs, nudists, weddings, beaches, children and grown-ups are simple but eloquent statements that show the imperfection of the world we live in.
Pacific Press Service takes pleasure in presenting in Japan Elliott Erwitt's rettospective exhibition, Personal Exposures, which is being seen nearly simultaneously in museums and galleries in major capitals around the world.
The encouragement of the Embassy of the United States of America, the Photographic Society of Japan, the Japan Professional Photographers Society and the Japan Advertising Photographers Association, and the generous support of Canon are deeply appreciated in the realization of this exhibition.
