A travel diary told through bodily waste. A motorway journey narrated by the call and response of an increasingly full bladder. A distinctly British road movie: Two-Lane Blacktop and Wild at Heart distilled into a trail of plastic bottles filled with urine.
These bottles were collected at service stations along the M1 motorway, documenting an overlooked yet strangely revealing aspect of contemporary travel culture.
Selected by Martin Parr for inclusion in the Tate/Parr Collection.
“Beautifully photographed and exquisitely produced, the series perfectly encapsulates the relationship between modern disposable culture and human waste... M1 is a thoughtful reflection on photographic vision, the shared language of photography, and the photobook itself.” — Photomonitor, 2018.
