This is the 1st edition published in 2021 and selling out almost as quickly as the nights it documents,
Rave One is much more than a book.
It is a time machine.
Peter’s camera takes us straight back to The Haçienda at the height of its glory during the wild years of Madchester, when Manchester was not simply a city of music: it was the global epicentre of musical avant-garde, underground culture, and a generation that believed a weekend could change your life.
Under the vision of Factory Records and the tireless drive of Tony Wilson, The Haçienda became one of the most influential clubs ever created. Hidden behind its industrial façade at 11–13 Whitworth Street West, it was much more than a nightclub: it was the physical home of an entire cultural movement.
There is something inevitably melancholic about opening this book today.
The original building was demolished in 2002 to make way for The Hacienda Apartments.
The dance floor is gone. The lights have disappeared. The nights are over.
But if you were not there to experience it… luckily, Peter was.
And he brought his camera.
