Sado by Takeji Iwamiya (1920-1989) 1st Edition, signed with a brush, Asahi Shimbun 1962. After graduating in commerce, Takeji Iwamiya worked for a few years in the shipyards until, in his early twenties, he decided to enlist in the Japanese army. Upon returning to Japan after completing his military service, he settled in Osaka, where he opened his first photography studio. During the 1950s, he traveled to Sado Island fairly regularly, focusing his lens on the most disadvantaged people: farmers, fishermen, and others living truly hard lives. He created an essential documentary archive for understanding the Japan far removed from the major cities.
