Bank Top, by photographer Craig Easton, examines the representation and misrepresentation of northern communities. The work focuses on a small, close-knit community in Blackburn, England, a town that has become synonymous with words such as segregation and integration, described by the BBC's Panorama as “Britain's most segregated town”.
Easton's photographs, alongside texts by writer, poet and social researcher Abdul Aziz Hafiz, seek to confront stereotypes and question the dangerous oversimplification of the challenges facing these communities. They do so by presenting residents' contemporary experiences as an “alternative account of history”.
