At a time when the world was politically divided between East and West, Magnum photographer Harry Gruyaert's search for light and sensuality led him to capture the colours of two very different worlds: the vibrant ostentation of Las Vegas and Los Angeles in 1981 and the austere restraint of Moscow in 1989, just before the fall of the Soviet Union. Although documenting current affairs was not his aim, he created a remarkable body of images that preserves a historical moment in brilliant hues.
 
 
 
This two-volume set reproduces almost 100 photographs from the series, nearly seventy for the first time, and includes an introductory essay by David Campany.
