Moriyama, who joined Provoke, unleashed a torrent of fragmentary images: film snippets, discarded negatives, posters and images copied from television. It is a work of ferocity, seemingly expressing a world in which everything is reduced to images as seen through photography; the accompanying account relates this intensity to the depression he experienced over the following ten years. The book concludes with an important conversation with his ally and rival Takuma Nakahira.
This is the third volume in the Daido Moriyama Photography Collection, a series inviting Satoru Machiguchi as designer, renewing printing and production, and involving the photographer himself in bringing out-of-print works back into circulation. This definitive edition recreates an early masterpiece at the same image size as the first edition, newly printed in tritone, and includes the complete conversation with Takuma Nakahira.
