FotoRAMBLAS, Boxers, wrestlers, variety shows, and other images from a Barcelona studio, 1956-1985. Let's put ourselves in a historical context. Although it may be hard to believe today, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, from 1894 to 1939, the Pararelo was the nerve center of Barcelona's entertainment scene, rivaling New York's Broadway and Paris's Montmartre. A few years later, the Pararelo continued to offer entertainment to Barcelona's most night owls. Variety shows and boxing evenings filled the nights in a Pararelo devoted to freedom. Both boxers and showgirls were immortalized in the FotoRAMBLAS photography studio; the photographs were used to promote the shows and for commercial commitments. It is estimated that FotoRAMBLAS generated an archive of between 200,000 and 300,000 negatives, of which only 1,300 remain today. The rest may have ended up in the Encants and in private collections. In this photobook, with a magnificent design by the brothers Ricard and Carlos Serrano, you can find a Barcelona frozen in time and it constitutes a graphic document of a time and identity of the city.
