Kake No. 1 is where one of the most iconic comic series in gay culture begins. Originally drawn by Touko Valio Laaksonen, the Finnish artist who would later become internationally known as Tom of Finland, this legendary first issue introduces the bold, unapologetic visual language that would make his work instantly recognizable.

Published in a French edition, this is No. 1 of the mythical Kake collection, making it a particularly fascinating piece for collectors of Tom of Finland, vintage gay comics and queer publishing history. Long before his images became part of popular culture, Laaksonen was creating an unmistakable universe of hypermasculine characters, erotic fantasy, leather, uniforms and muscular bodies, combining humour, sexuality and an extraordinary sense of line.

The importance of Kake goes far beyond its erotic content. These drawings helped establish a visual vocabulary for an emerging gay subculture, transforming private fantasies into confident, celebratory images of male sexuality and desire. Today, the series stands as an essential part of the history of queer illustration and underground publishing.

For collectors, owning the first number of such a legendary series is something special. This French edition of Kake No. 1 offers a glimpse into the origins of Tom of Finland's legendary world and represents a remarkable addition to any collection of Rare Photobooks, collectible publications, vintage gay comics or photography books for collectors interested in the broader history of queer visual culture.
