Juan Cecilia’s Cárcel Pagada, Bandeja Gratis is a raw and irreverent comic that turns confinement, absurdity, and everyday frustration into a darkly humorous visual experience. With a deliberately rough and immediate graphic language, Cecilia creates a world where the ridiculous and the unsettling constantly overlap.

The comic plays with the idea of prison not only as a physical space but also as a metaphor for social routines, authority, and the restrictions that shape ordinary life. Its humor is sharp, sometimes grotesque, and always infused with a sense of rebellion. Rather than following a conventional narrative structure, the work relies on fragments, visual jokes, unexpected situations, and a distinctive underground sensibility.

Cecilia’s drawing style gives the book much of its character. The imperfections, expressive figures, and direct line work reinforce the feeling of something spontaneous and personal, closer to an underground zine than to a polished commercial comic. The result is a work with a strong DIY spirit and a distinctly Spanish countercultural atmosphere.

Cárcel Pagada, Bandeja Gratis is an uncompromising piece of underground comics: funny, uncomfortable, anarchic, and deliberately unrefined. It captures the energy of a particular strain of independent comic culture in which humor becomes a way of confronting authority, boredom, and the absurdity of everyday existence.
