The Soul Research, by NC Andersen, is a photographic exploration of the nude male body as a territory of expression, identity and vulnerability. The Sitges-based photographer and sculptor brings his interest in human anatomy to photography, seeking what remains hidden beneath physical appearance and is difficult to express in words. Through black-and-white portraits of seventeen young men, most of whom are not professional models, Andersen creates a series of images combining sculptural sensitivity with an intimate approach to portraiture. Light, poses and the absence of distracting elements make the body the true protagonist. Photography functions here as an extension of his sculptural work, but also as a means of exploring the relationship between physical beauty and each model's individuality. Far from presenting a simple catalogue of male nudes, The Soul Research offers a reflection on the representation of the body, youth and intimacy. Its visual language draws on a classical tradition of the artistic nude, while monochrome photography accentuates skin textures, volumes and anatomical forms. Published in 2025, the book comprises 272 black-and-white pages and is presented in a carefully produced clothbound hardcover edition, limited to just 200 numbered copies. Conceived as both an artistic object and a collectible photobook, this publication is of particular interest to those who appreciate male nude photography and its dialogue with contemporary sculpture.
