In the late 1980s and early 1990s, it was Valencia, rather than Manchester, Detroit, London or Berlin, that carried the banner of musical innovation. What was happening in those clubs scattered along the Saler road, hidden among rice fields and reeds? A spontaneous mass movement emerged, seeking hedonism on the dance floor. In its early days, the Ruta del Bacalao, also known as Ruta Destroy, was a melting pot of musical trends, camaraderie and good feeling among its participants, then mostly from Valencia and nearby towns such as Sueca. This book brings together archival photographs by Susana Oliva and her circle of friends, who regularly attended the clubs along the Saler road.
