Sunday, August 31 marked the end of the holidays. We wandered around the airport in shorts and flip-flops, waiting for our planes to take off. The freshly polished floor was a limbo of insolvency, but we didn’t know it. Or perhaps we didn’t want to know. Fifteen days later, we watched on the evening news as Lehman Brothers employees took to the streets carrying their cardboard boxes. It didn’t seem like such a big deal to us either.
