Nice to meet you
 
It takes several generations to make a family photograph: a human arrangement in which the viewer perceives a clear and effective distribution of fragility or toughness, strength or weakness, good fortune or bad luck.
Txema Salvans's skill — or technique? — lies in dispensing with this work of time and violence. His photographs instantly draw family groups that are faithful to reality yet could not exist. His photographs of diverse groups of people from across Spain — sometimes groups that are not families, sometimes people who do not even know one another — are, in essence, family photographs. They are photographs of families that have come together only for a photograph. In a Txema Salvans photograph, you can always see, for example, who is going to have the most problems. Or who has died.
 
This book of photographs, with text by journalist Guillem Martínez, invites the reader to enter the family logic of families that may never have existed.
