“I want to make photographs like haiku.
The most celebrated haiku, passed down through the centuries, remain open to countless interpretations. With just a few words, they can evoke scenes and stir emotions.”
Masao Yamamoto, quoted in huko's afterword, “Ecos de un espacio construido”.
With birds and landscapes as his subjects, Japanese photographer Masao Yamamoto creates a series of images as captivating as it is distinctive. Deeply influenced by his training as a painter and his interest in traditional Japanese compositional techniques, particularly the deliberate use of empty space, Yamamoto develops monochrome photography that transcends visual conventions and invites viewers to reflect on their place in the natural world.
“In an age saturated with information and dominated by the impatience to obtain immediate answers, Yamamoto's works, which resist being confined to a single meaning and entrust their interpretation to the viewer, may offer us a way to rediscover our own sensitivity.”
