ÖVERGÅNGAR

Övergångar is part of Konstmuseet i Norr's county-wide activities beyond its newly opened premises in Kiruna. Taking the exhibition Transitions as her starting point, artist Jenny Nordmark focuses on humanity's relationship with nature and the ways the landscape itself has changed throughout history. Through its location and performative elements, Övergångar connects both with the river's historical use for timber floating and with our contemporary ability to track distant movements and events digitally. The artwork's form contrasts sharply with its surroundings, making nature, in a sense, more tangible.
 
The work takes the physical form of a red orb, first launched into the Torne River on National River Day, 17 August 2019. The next launch is scheduled for 2 p.m. on 2 May 2020, from the riverbank at Laxforsen, allowing the spring current to carry the orb downstream towards the Gulf of Bothnia.
