This is a photo essay about the construction of the Three Gorges Dam on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River in China. Completed in 2009, it was once the world's largest hydroelectric dam. It is said that, due to its construction, approximately 1.9 million people lost their homeland. Many riverside villages that flourished along the waterways were forcibly destroyed, and as the water level continued to rise inexorably, the millennia-old history of this area, passed down from ancient times, came to an end. Although this book was published many years ago, I believe it still serves as a window into the real China and provides insight into how this chaotic country is moving forward.
