Rectangular forms fill every page. Shipping containers are this book's protagonists, the metal boxes indispensable to modern logistics and the efficient movement of vast quantities of freight. They support our everyday lives. Yusuke Inoue photographs them travelling along urban expressways, seemingly frozen by telephoto lenses and fast shutter speeds.
“Inoue's photographs may be understood as a ‘typology of moments’, undoubtedly inspired by camera technology and photography's changing role in contemporary society. The unreality of their apparent stillness fascinates us.” — From Kenji Takazawa's afterword.
Each container is photographed under strict rules, appearing at the same size in every image, while Tokyo's changing scenes form the backgrounds. Inoue highlights the city and its integrated logistics network.
His first photobook presents part of an extensive series made in and around Tokyo, accompanied by a substantial essay by photography critic Kenji Takazawa.
