Over Thirty Years of Photographs, a Chronological Album

"Intimate Distance" is an expanded edition compiling the work of American photographer Todd Hido, known for his suburban landscape photography and his use of detail and warmth of color.

In addition to his most iconic photographs, previously unpublished works are included, offering the most comprehensive monograph on his career.

In this book, Hido applies a cinematic approach to his work, exploring his memory and imagination for inspiration. The new edition includes ten years of additional work since the first publication, with stunning previously unpublished images from his travels to Iceland, Norway, and Japan, providing both a familiar view and an expansion of his artistic approach.

The book is organized chronologically, allowing us to see how Hido's photographic sequences overlap and evolve in unexpected ways. David Campany's analysis reflects on the type of cinematic viewer Hido's photographs require, while Katya Tylevich delves into the creation of his major monographs. Throughout this work, Hido unfolds a journey from the exterior to the interior, from superficial observations to subconscious investigations.

Through his unique approach, the book reveals how his vision has changed over time, although the tension between distance and intimacy remains a central theme in his work.
