Âme Partagée represents David Alan Harvey's twenty-year journey through the Spanish and Portuguese diaspora in the Americas. Since the 1970s, Harvey has photographed in Spain, Portugal, Cuba, Mexico, Honduras, Brazil and Chile. A passionate, divided soul, in which tradition and ritual are inherent in everyday life, emerges in photographs of vibrant carnivals in Trinidad, fervent religious ceremonies in Brazil and intense Holy Week processions in Puerto Rico. Harvey minimises the distance between himself and his subjects, creating images that capture people's natural choreography within places and resonate with the magic of their subjects.
