Yorgos Yatromanolakis est né en 1986 à Zaros, en Crète.
Il vit et travaille entre Athènes et la Crète. Il a étudié l'informatique à l'Université Aristote de Thessalonique, la photographie à l'école Stereosis, et suit actuellement le master « Photographie : recherche et méthodologie » au département de photographie et d'arts audiovisuels de l'Université de l'Attique occidentale. Il est cofondateur de l'espace artistique autogéré Zoetrope, à Athènes, et rédacteur collaborateur pour le magazine Phases.
As with his acclaimed latest book, The Splitting Of The Chrysalis & The Slow Unfolding Of The Wing (2018), Farewell To The Night is a series inspired by the rites of passage that mark the transition from one phase of life to another, capturing the internal process of metamorphosis.
This time, as a young father and the journey that comes with it.
An existential journey, full of contradictions, inner struggles and constant change.
It reflects a new way of being, where responsibility coexists with anxiety, and where vulnerability is linked to tenderness and unconditional love.
This new photographic series places fatherhood in the present, in a fragile and uncertain world, and in a new emerging reality where the values and beliefs we once relied on seem to be crumbling. In this light, Farewell To The Night acts not only as an emotional topography of a father's inner world, but also as an imaginary safe space, a calm and protective place to which he and his child can cling.
Sa pratique artistique s'articule autour de techniques photographiques expérimentales, de procédés d'impression argentiques, de livres d'artiste et d'installations audiovisuelles.
Il réalise des projets photographiques au long cours qu'il édite lui-même, mêlant narration, matériaux et design. Il a déjà publié trois ouvrages : *
Roadblock To Normality* (2016), *Not Provided* (2016) et *The Splitting Of The Chrysalis & The Slow Unfolding Of The Wings* (2018).
Sept ans après son dernier livre, il revient avec une nouvelle série très attendue : *Farewell To The Night*.
